A maritime security alert has been issued warning of imminent threats to commercial vessels and oil tankers operating in the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, and the southern Red Sea. Intelligence indicates a heightened risk in one of the world's critical international maritime passages.

The Maritime Security Unit of PTOC Yemen released an early security warning on July 19, 2026, citing "high-risk" security indicators. These indicators suggest a potential operational coordination between elements of Somali pirates and the Houthi group, which could lead to attacks targeting commercial ships and oil tankers.

The potential threats include piracy, hijacking, and direct targeting of vessels using fast boats and drones. These activities are anticipated in the waters of the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, and the southern Red Sea, including the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Vessels heading to Yemeni ports or transiting near the Yemeni and Somali coastlines are particularly at risk.

The unit strongly advises all vessels and maritime shipping companies to enhance their security readiness, immediately implement established ship security plans, maintain maximum safe distance from Yemeni and Somali coastlines, and avoid low-speed navigation in high-risk areas.
