Yemeni Journalists Demand Immediate Release of Detained Colleague

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating health of colleague Waleed Ali Ghalib, deputy head of the syndicate's branch in Hodeidah Governorate, who has been detained by Houthi militias in Sana'a for over a year. He is reportedly being denied necessary medical care despite suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, and other chronic conditions.

The Syndicate emphasized that Ghalib's continued detention and denial of treatment constitute a flagrant violation of human rights, local laws, and international conventions. This situation places his life at serious risk, making the Houthi militias fully responsible for his life, safety, and any health decline resulting from his ongoing detention and lack of medical attention.

The Syndicate reiterated its call for the immediate and unconditional release of Waleed Ali Ghalib. It also urged an end to the policy of targeting media professionals for carrying out their professional duties.

The organization appealed to the International Federation of Journalists and the Arab Journalists Association to intensify their efforts and take urgent action with relevant authorities. They are urged to exert all possible pressure to secure Ghalib's release and ensure he receives comprehensive medical care until his freedom is granted.
