Security authorities in Yemen's eastern Hadramout province announced Thursday that initial investigations into the assassination of journalist Mohammed Aidah, a correspondent for Al Arabiya and Al Hadath, revealed the use of an improvised explosive device (IED) planted beneath the driver's seat of his vehicle. The device was detonated remotely, resulting in his death from injuries sustained in the city of Mukalla. The General Directorate of Security and Police for the Hadramout Coast stated that its specialized departments have launched extensive investigations to uncover the circumstances of the attack and identify those responsible. The directorate confirmed that forensic investigation teams, criminal evidence experts, and explosives specialists conducted comprehensive field and technical assessments at the incident site. According to the preliminary findings, the explosion was caused by a locally manufactured explosive device fixed beneath the front seat designated for the driver. The device was detonated remotely while the journalist was inside the vehicle. Security authorities added that the investigative teams have collected several pieces of technical evidence and clues from the explosion site, which are currently undergoing analysis. Legal procedures are being completed as part of the efforts to identify the perpetrators and those involved in planning the crime. The security administration emphasized that investigations are continuing at an intensive pace, noting progress in tracing leads in the case. It stressed that all security, technical, and military resources have been mobilized to apprehend the culprits and expose the entities behind the operation. The leadership of the security and police in the Hadramout Coast condemned the attack, describing it as a "heinous crime" and a serious assault on the security and stability of society. They also extended condolences to the family of the deceased journalist and his colleagues in the media community. Authorities affirmed that security and military agencies are continuing to work jointly to pursue those responsible for the attack, vowing not to be lenient in bringing them to justice once investigations and legal procedures are completed. |
