A commercial cargo ship has been hijacked off the northeastern coast of Somalia, near the town of Qandala, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The UKMTO stated in a bulletin that the incident occurred approximately six nautical miles northeast of Qandala late on Sunday. Unauthorized individuals reportedly seized control of the vessel and redirected it into Somali waters. This alert follows similar warnings issued just hours earlier regarding the hijacking of a tanker in Somali waters, which was subsequently moved approximately 77 nautical miles. The UKMTO indicated that these recent incidents suggest a growing threat from organized piracy activities in the Somali maritime region near the Gulf of Aden. |
