A teacher was killed on Sunday in the Murais district, north of Al Dhale Governorate, central Yemen, by the explosion of a landmine left behind by the Houthi militia, highlighting the persistent threat of mines to civilian lives. Local sources reported that the victim, Ayoub Saleh Yahya, an English teacher, died while he was in a farm in the village of Sa'dah when an explosive device detonated at the site. Human rights reports indicate that the Houthi militia has planted large quantities of landmines and explosive devices in various areas since the outbreak of the conflict, resulting in hundreds of casualties, including deaths and injuries, most of whom are civilians. According to international estimates, millions of mines are spread across Yemen and continue to pose an ongoing threat to the population, amid difficulties facing demining efforts and repeated warnings of the escalating associated humanitarian catastrophe. |
