Houthi militias have ignited widespread anger in Sana'a by renaming a prominent private school, "Azal Al-Wadi Modern," to honor a deceased militia member, sparking protests among students and parents.

Educational and student sources in the Yemeni capital reported that the terrorist Houthi militia proceeded with the name change of the school, located near Sana'a University. The institution has been renamed "Abu Za'bal," after Yahya Za'bal, a militia casualty known by that alias.

The decision has been met with significant opposition within student circles, with some students adopting satirical names for the school to express their dissent. Reports indicate that a number of students have recently departed the school, citing concerns over changes to the educational process and its administration.

Sources further revealed that the school, previously known for offering curricula in both Arabic and English, has undergone shifts in its educational content, with an increased emphasis on activities of a mobilization nature. The school's administration is reportedly under the supervision of individuals affiliated with the militia, amid accusations of imposing ideological directives within educational institutions in Houthi-controlled areas.

These Houthi actions are seen as part of a broader effort to reshape the educational and cultural landscape, which includes altering the names of institutions bearing historical significance. The name "Azal" itself is an ancient designation linked to the history of Sana'a, tracing back to early historical periods in Yemen.
