Arab Nations Condemn Israeli Envoy to "Somaliland," Warn of Regional Instability

A coalition of Arab and Islamic nations has issued a strong condemnation of Israel's decision to appoint a diplomatic envoy to the self-declared region of "Somaliland," asserting that the move constitutes a direct violation of the Federal Republic of Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The joint statement, released by the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Bangladesh, Algeria, Palestine, Turkey, and Indonesia, declared that Israel's action represents a clear breach of international law principles and the UN Charter, in addition to contradicting the foundational rules of the African Union.

The ministers issued a stern warning regarding the potential repercussions of this diplomatic maneuver, highlighting that it could establish dangerous precedents that threaten stability in the Horn of Africa and negatively impact the entire regional security framework.

This unified stance follows Israel's announcement of appointing Michael Lotem, who serves as its roving economic ambassador to Africa, as a non-resident envoy to the region referred to as "Somaliland." This appointment has drawn widespread objections from the Somali government.

Mogadishu promptly denounced the decision, reaffirming that the aforementioned region is an inseparable part of its sovereign territory and cannot be treated as an independent entity under any circumstances. The Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Israeli move is a flagrant violation of the country's unity and contradicts the tenets of international law, including the UN Charter and the founding principles of the African Union, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The ministry underscored that Somalia is a single, fully sovereign state within its internationally recognized borders, reiterating its rejection of any measures that could undermine its unity or territorial integrity.
