A Houthi field commander was killed during confrontations with government forces in the Taiz Governorate, southwest Yemen, military sources reported on Thursday. The military axis media in Taiz issued a statement identifying the deceased commander as Haitham Abdul Hakim Abdul Majeed Al-Salmi. He was reportedly killed on the Al-Salu front in the southeastern part of the governorate during engagements between the two sides. The statement further indicated that government forces executed a targeted operation based on accurate intelligence and surveillance of Al-Salmi's movements. Al-Salmi was said to hold a leadership role in managing combat operations in the area. The frontlines in Taiz have been experiencing intermittent clashes between government forces and the Houthi militia, characterized by back-and-forth engagements across several sectors. This incident follows a day after clashes erupted in the northeastern front of Taiz city. These earlier confrontations were reportedly triggered by a Houthi infiltration attempt towards positions near Al-Hamad Hospital, according to military sources. |
