A young man suffering from severe mental health disturbances fatally shot his brother before taking his own life in Yemen's Al Jawf Governorate, a region under Houthi militia control. The incident represents the latest instance of domestic violence in the northeastern Yemeni province. According to a tribal source, the perpetrator, identified as Waleed Yahya Shoa Rakan, discharged multiple rounds at his brother, Yahya, aged 36, resulting in his immediate death. Following the fatal shooting of his brother, the assailant turned the weapon on himself, ending his own life. This tragic event occurs amidst widespread reports of deteriorating mental health conditions across Yemen, exacerbated by a decade of conflict instigated by the Houthi militia. Current estimates suggest that approximately 25% of the Yemeni population experiences various psychological disorders. Some of these conditions are characterized by extreme aggression, necessitating urgent medical intervention and care. However, such essential services are reportedly lacking for residents in areas controlled by the Houthi militia. |
