Anti-Smuggling Forces (Al-Amaliqa) announced the interception of a smuggling vessel off the Bab al-Mandab Strait carrying a substantial shipment of unauthorized pharmaceuticals, following an extensive intelligence operation. The forces detailed the operation on their official "X" account early Wednesday, citing a source within the security campaign who confirmed that a naval patrol intercepted a vessel exceeding 20 meters in length on Tuesday while en route to Yemen's western coast. The source specified that the boat was laden with approximately 3,000 cartons of medicine lacking official entry permits. Furthermore, five crew members aboard the vessel were apprehended during the seizure. According to statements provided by the detained sailors, the vessel departed from the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas and was destined for the Al-Salif port in the Hodeidah Governorate, an area currently under the control of the Houthi militia. The security source confirmed that the cargo has been secured and the apprehended sailors have been transferred to custody for further investigation before being referred to the competent authorities for legal proceedings. The Bab al-Mandab Strait remains a critical international maritime passage, which has frequently been the site of smuggling activities in recent years, exacerbated by the ongoing conflict in Yemen and regional tensions affecting Red Sea navigation. |
