Well-informed sources in Sana’a reported that the leadership of the General People’s Congress party (GPC) continues to reject participation in the new Houthi rebels-led cabinet, whose announcement has been delayed for months. The sources revealed that the GPC’s Sana’a faction refuses to join any cabinet lacking genuine partnership and clear powers, stressing that superficial involvement would not help address the worsening crises faced by Yemenis in Houthi-controlled areas. They noted that the party’s stance stems from past experience, which showed that symbolic partnerships fail to deliver stability or development. The faction, nominally allied with the Houthis since the coup, is unwilling to remain a political cover for decisions it neither shapes nor bears responsibility for. According to the same sources, current disputes go beyond ministerial portfolios, extending to the nature of political decision-making, the management of state institutions in Sana’a, and the absence of guarantees for cabinet independence and effective authority free from Houthi rebels dominance. Meanwhile, frustration has grown among Houthi-affiliated activists and writers, who have criticized the prolonged delay in forming the unrecognized government. They argue that the stalemate worsens living conditions and deepens administrative and economic paralysis. |
