The Yemeni Journalists' Syndicate has renewed its demand for the government to forcibly restore control of its headquarters in the interim capital, Aden, which has been occupied by armed elements of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) for over two years, constituting a blatant violation of syndicate rights and press freedom.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, the Syndicate emphasized that the continued seizure of its premises represents a direct assault on an independent professional union structure and severely undermines the environment necessary for journalistic and union work, particularly given the escalating challenges faced by reporters.

The organization reiterated its call for the government to fulfill its constitutional and legal obligations by taking immediate action to secure the return of the Aden headquarters. The Syndicate asserted that regaining possession of the building is an inherent legal and union right that cannot lapse with time or be conceded under any circumstances.

Furthermore, the Syndicate urged authorities to establish a secure and professional environment that guarantees the freedom of both journalistic and union activities across all governorates.

Armed elements linked to the Southern Transitional Council initially stormed and forcibly seized the Yemeni Journalists' Syndicate building in Aden in March 2023. This incident sparked widespread condemnation from human rights and media organizations at the time, owing to the intimidation tactics employed against the Syndicate’s administrative body and staff.
