The death toll from a grenade attack launched at a tribal gathering (maqhil) in the Jabal Habashi district of Taiz Governorate has risen to two fatalities and five injuries, according to reports from Sunday, February 8, 2026. Local sources confirmed to Khabar Agency that two critically wounded individuals, identified as Yassin Al-Mansub and Tawfiq Ahmed Ali Ha'il, succumbed to their injuries. The Military Police announced, in coordination with security agencies in the Al-Kadha security zone, the apprehension of a wanted suspect accused of committing the murder and injuring seven others. The arrest was executed on Sunday evening, pursuant to an existing arrest warrant and security circular issued against the individual. Security sources indicated that the apprehended suspect was fleeing from the Bani Bakari area on a motorcycle before being intercepted at the Dhi Al-Lima checkpoint, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Military Police. A patrol vehicle was dispatched to secure the transfer of the detainee to the Al-Kadha security zone. The incident reportedly occurred Sunday afternoon around 5:00 PM in Bani Bakari when a hand grenade was thrown into a gathering hall where several citizens were present, initially resulting in one death and seven injuries. The suspect has since been handed over to the security administration of the Jabal Habashi district to complete investigations and take the necessary legal measures in accordance with established law. Other sources specified the alleged perpetrator as Amir Awad Ali Abdulqader, stating he threw the explosive device into the gathering hall belonging to Yassin Al-Mansub, leading directly to the deaths of Al-Mansub and Tawfiq Ahmed, in addition to the five other injuries. |
