The family of lawyer and human rights activist Abdulmajeed Sabrah, who is detained by the Houthi group, has revealed a deterioration in his physical and mental health and confirmed he has been subjected to torture, following a visit to him in prison.. His brother, stated in a post on his Facebook account that the family visited Abdulmajeed Saterday after he was transferred on January 25 to the Houthi-run Security and Intelligence prison located in the Shamlan (Madbah) area of Sana’a. Walid Sabrah explained that his brother appeared pale, thin, and severely exhausted, suffering from extreme fatigue and spoke with difficulty. A deep wound on his chin had been “stitched with surgical thread,” an indicator of what he described as “bitter suffering behind bars.” He quoted his brother saying that he had been subjected to repeated threats to force him to abandon his human rights work and renounce his legal convictions. He emphasized that these pressures are part of an attempt to break his will due to his activity in defending the oppressed. The family held the Houthis fully responsible for the safety and life of lawyer Abdulmajeed Sabrah, warning that his life is now in danger and calling for urgent intervention to save him and stop the violations he is facing. Abdulmajeed Sabrah is considered one of the most prominent lawyers and human rights activists in Sana’a, known for his defense of human rights cases and detainees, amid rising human rights concerns regarding the conditions of prisoners in the Houthi rebels’s jails. |
