The Association of Detainees' Mothers has renewed its urgent demands for the immediate disclosure of the fate of all forcibly disappeared persons, their subsequent release, accountability for all perpetrators of these crimes, guarantees against recurrence, and reparations for victims and their families, strictly adhering to the rule of law and principles of justice. This declaration followed a protest vigil held by the association in the temporary capital, Aden, where demonstrators called upon the Yemeni government to expedite the implementation of presidential directives concerning the forcibly disappeared file. A primary demand is the swift revelation of their whereabouts before any further measures are undertaken, particularly given the recent discovery that several secret detention facilities have become vacant. The Association clarified that witnessing these prisons empty, without knowledge of where the forcibly disappeared individuals were transferred, has caused profound distress to the families. These families continue to implore the relevant authorities to reveal their loved ones' fate, thereby ending years of agonizing anticipation, psychological trauma, and social burdens endured for over a decade. The families of the forcibly disappeared have placed their highest hopes and prayers on the prospect of being reunited with their sons during the holy month of Ramadan, allowing family gatherings and the return of warmth to homes deprived of joy for over ten years due to secret prisons obscuring their loved ones and denying them basic human rights. The Association affirmed that resolving this critical humanitarian file and ascertaining the fate of the forcibly disappeared constitutes a genuine test of the authorities' intentions regarding establishing security, initiating a new chapter of stability and justice, and rebuilding community trust. |
