A woman in her fifties was killed when a mortar shell fired by Houthi militants struck her home in the Sabr Al-Mawadim district, south of Taiz governorate, on Friday evening. Ishraq Al-Maqtari, the Minister of Legal Affairs, stated that the victim, Safia Hazza Saif Al-Azzani, 50, died due to a mortar shell fired by the Houthi militia that landed on her residence in the Al-Awate area, within the Al-Arida sub-district of Sabr Al-Mawadim. The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 PM on Friday, October 16, 2026. In a post on her X platform account, Al-Maqtari highlighted that this incident is part of ongoing Houthi shelling targeting villages in Sabr Al-Mawadim and Al-Masrakh districts, thereby endangering civilian lives and subjecting their homes to direct fire. The Houthi militia continues its artillery and mortar shelling of civilian homes in the villages of Sabr Al-Mawadim and Al-Masrakh, resulting in civilian casualties amidst their inability to achieve battlefield advances. |
