Infant Killed, Child Injured in Houthi Shelling in Taiz Countryside

An infant, just 14 days old, was killed and another child was injured on Friday following Houthi shelling in the Al-Dabab area of Taiz province, southwestern Yemen.

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms reported that its field team documented the death of the infant, Mohammed Muhaib Saeed Abdo Qasim, who arrived at Al-Thawra General Hospital in Taiz city deceased. The infant sustained shrapnel wounds to the head.

The network added that the shelling also resulted in injuries to two-and-a-half-year-old Ahmed Aref Abdo Qasim, who suffered shrapnel wounds across his body. He received necessary medical care.

The network condemned the targeting of residential areas, emphasizing that the death of an infant less than two weeks old highlights the significant challenges and dangers civilians face due to ongoing attacks on populated areas in conflict zones.

The organization called for the protection of civilians and an immediate cessation of attacks on residential areas. Furthermore, it demanded an investigation into the incident and accountability for those responsible.
