Local sources in Yemen's Ibb province report that a Houthi security official has allegedly released two individuals implicated in irrigating produce with sewage water, following the acceptance of financial bribes. The individuals, identified as Hamdan Al-Amari, known as Abu Hamza, who holds the position of police station director in Maytam, Ibb, appointed by the Houthi militia, reportedly released two men after they had been detained by station personnel. The accused, Bilal Mohammed Mohammed Qayed Makabs and Issam Mohammed Murshid Al-Jabri, were apprehended siphoning sewage water from the Maytam valley stream into their wells. They were reportedly using this contaminated water to irrigate qat and vegetable farms for local consumption and for sale to water tankers, generating income. Sources indicate that the suspects were slated for referral to the public prosecutor's office. However, the security official allegedly facilitated their release in exchange for financial inducements. This incident highlights concerns regarding alleged collusion between Houthi officials and individuals involved in the dangerous practice of irrigating crops with contaminated water. It also raises questions about the disregard for public health and safety, with citizens' lives potentially threatened by the proliferation of epidemics and diseases. |
