A massive fire broke out on Tuesday in the Al-Siyani market in the Shamilah district of southern Sanaa, causing extensive material damage to the property of citizens and merchants, with no human casualties reported.

Local sources indicated that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit in a commercial section of the market. The blaze rapidly spread, consuming a significant number of shops specializing in mobile phones and ready-to-wear clothing.

An eyewitness confirmed that the flames erupted suddenly. Shop owners and bystanders attempted to extinguish the fire using their own resources before the arrival of fire engines. However, the flammable nature of materials in the clothing stores contributed to the fire's rapid expansion.

According to initial reports, the incident resulted in the complete or near-complete destruction of numerous stalls and shops, inflicting severe financial losses on their owners, estimated to be in the millions of riyals. Civil defense vehicles arrived late to the scene to combat the fire and prevent its spread to other commercial blocks in the densely populated Shamilah area.

Markets in the capital have periodically witnessed similar incidents attributed to the lack of public safety measures and haphazard electrical wiring, raising growing concerns among the commercial sector and the public alike.
