A specialized criminal court in Sana'a, controlled by the Houthi militia, has issued death sentences for 19 individuals and prison terms ranging from two to ten years for four others. The verdicts were delivered on Sunday, following convictions on charges including "aiding the enemy" and belonging to an armed gang. The court ordered the execution of the convicted individuals through Hadd, Qisas, and Ta'zir punishments. These sentences stem from accusations of joining camps affiliated with the Saudi- and Emirati-led coalition between 2015 and 2023. The defendants were also accused of coordinating with armed groups to carry out bombings, assassinations, and targeting security checkpoints and government facilities in the Tuban district of Dhale'e Governorate. These rulings come just three days after an agreement was announced to conduct a prisoner exchange between the internationally recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi group. The deal was brokered in the Jordanian capital, Amman, under the auspices of the United Nations. |
