A recent act of sabotage targeting the electricity network in Socotra resulted in widespread power outages across several districts in the capital, Hadibo. Local sources confirmed that the interruption, which occurred yesterday, was caused by unidentified individuals deliberately cutting a high-voltage cable supplying the city, leading to significant portions of the grid failing. These disruptive incidents targeting Hadibo's power infrastructure have become recurrent recently, affecting more than eight electrical lines since the Saudi Program for Development and Reconstruction of Yemen assumed management of the Electricity Corporation approximately two months ago, following the withdrawal of the UAE side. Sources familiar with the situation did not rule out the possibility that these acts of vandalism are systematic and motivated by certain factions aiming to impede the regularity of public services and undermine any improvements made to the island's electrical system. The sources affirmed that teams from the Electricity Corporation in Socotra Governorate are currently engaged in intensive field operations to conduct maintenance and repair the damage inflicted upon the network, striving to restore power to the affected areas as swiftly as possible. |
