The United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, expressed concern over the attack that occurred in the Hairan district of Hajjah governorate on March 15 while civilians were gathered for iftar during the month of Ramadan. The UN envoy in a statement published on his account on X, regarding the incident stressed that it is necessary to hold those responsible for the attack accountable and to protect civilians at all times in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law. He noted that preliminary information indicates the attack resulted in the killing of at least eight civilians and the injury of dozens, including children. However, he did not explicitly mention the Houthis and limited his statement to condemning the crime. On Sunday, the Houthi group shelled a gathering of civilians in the Hairan District while they were assembled to eat the iftar meal, resulting in deaths and injuries, including among children. |
