Government forces in Yemen announced late Friday the successful thwarting of an offensive launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militia targeting their positions in the southwestern governorate of Taiz. The media center for the Taiz Axis issued a brief statement confirming that army units neutralized an attempted attack by the Houthi militia on the Old Airport front, west of Taiz city. The engagement occurred after militia elements attempted to advance toward government military positions. This incident underscores the escalating ground confrontations witnessed across several Yemeni fronts in recent days. Earlier in the week, a Houthi field commander, Adnan Hussein Al-Subaiti, was killed during clashes on the western front of Taiz following a separate infiltration attempt by the militia. Furthermore, government forces reported on Monday that they had repelled another Houthi assault in the Razih district of Sa’dah governorate in the north of the country. The military confirmed that Houthi fighters attempted to advance toward government positions in the Jabal Al-Azhur and Al-Hanaka areas under the cover of artillery bombardment and medium-arms fire, concurrent with drone activity and sniper presence. The government forces affirmed that they decisively confronted the attack, compelling the assailants to retreat after inflicting significant losses in personnel and materiel. |
