The Al-Bayda Monitoring Center for Rights and Development documented 868 grave violations in Al-Bayda Governorate during 2025, attributing 98% of these abuses to the Houthi group. The annual report, titled "Al-Bayda 2025: Geography of Repression and the Harvest of Atrocities," recorded 690 arbitrary detentions, 40 killings, 32 injuries, and the retention of 16 bodies. The documented violations represent a significant surge, marking a 132% increase compared to the preceding year. The report highlighted that January was the deadliest and most violative month, registering 612 incidents. This spike coincided with a military offensive targeting the Hanaka Al Masoud area in the Al-Qurayshiyah district, which the center described as a "human rights disaster zone." The actions taken there were characterized as "systematic collective punishment aimed at weakening and dismantling tribal cohesion." The center further noted the destruction or damage of 26 residential structures and 13 mosques. During the year, the shelling and landmine incidents resulted in the death or injury of 14 children and women. Additionally, the report pointed to the detention of bodies in the Al-Qurayshiyah district, which are being utilized as "a tool for blackmailing residents." The systematic imposition of levies and organized looting of private property severely impacted living conditions, reportedly driving hundreds of families into extreme poverty. Cumulatively, spanning the period from 2014 to 2025, the report revealed a total of 13,387 recorded violations. This aggregate figure includes 3,773 cases of abduction and detention, 863 civilian fatalities, 801 injuries, 6,294 cases of forced displacement, 1,231 violations against private property, 196 against public property, 38 instances of asset looting, and 229 categorized under "other" violations. The Monitoring Center issued an urgent appeal for immediate international pressure to secure the release of all individuals arbitrarily detained in 2025 and previous years. It also demanded the immediate handover of all retained bodies, citing this as a fundamental humanitarian and ethical right. The center called for strengthening the role of the National Commission for Investigation into Allegations of Internationally Recognized Human Rights Violations to ensure justice, accountability, and prevent impunity. |
