Agreement Signed to Implement “Water Security Enhancement” Project in Marib

An agreement to implement a “Water Security Enhancement” project in Marib Governorate (eastern Yemen) with Saudi and European funding  was signed in Riyadh on Monday .

The Yemeni Selah Development Foundation would implement the project over 18-month.

The project focuses on developing the water system in Marib by supporting infrastructure, improving supply efficiency, and ensuring the sustainability of water resources. , it is expected to directly benefit over 368,000 people across Marib Al-Wadi District, Marib City, and Harib.

The agreement comes as part of coordinated international efforts to enhance water security, strengthen community resilience, and promote sustainable development impact in Yemen.

The project includes several critical infrastructure developments:

* Drilling 8 artesian wells for drinking water at depths of up to 280 meters, fully powered by solar energy.

* Rehabilitating 3 existing wells in the old Marib field using solar energy.

* Constructing 7 elevated water tanks of various capacities.

* Installing 8 public water distribution networks (from source to beneficiary) in rural areas.

To ensure long-term viability, the project also focuses on human capital:

* Community Governance: Forming and training 8 community water committees on financial management, operation, and maintenance.

* Technical Training: Training local technical staff on the operation of solar energy systems to maximize efficiency and service continuity.
