The Coast Guard has intercepted the oil tanker "Nerida," flying the Comoros flag, in the Gulf of Aden following its departure from the Houthi-controlled port of Ras Isa. The vessel has been escorted to the port of Aden for investigation.

The Coast Guard authority stated that the tanker, which is listed among vessels subject to U.S. sanctions, had discharged its cargo at Ras Isa port without coordination with official authorities. A Coast Guard patrol subsequently monitored and intercepted the vessel in the Gulf of Aden.

Armed guards aboard the tanker reportedly opened fire on the patrol during the interception operation. The vessel eventually complied with orders to halt and was handed over to the competent authorities at the port of Aden.

The authority indicated that investigations will encompass the vessel's route, cargo, and documentation, as well as the circumstances of its entry into Ras Isa port and the incident involving the firing on the patrol. Legal proceedings will follow.
