Government Forces Recapture Key Hills West of Taiz Amid Escalating Clashes

Government forces recaptured two strategic hills, Al-Makahinah and Al-Khazan, in the Jabal Habashi district west of Taiz province on Friday, following intense confrontations with Iran-backed Houthi militias.

The recapture of these positions coincided with a significant escalation of fighting in the Maqbanah and Al-Kudhah fronts in the western part of the province. Military reinforcements have been dispatched to government positions as part of ongoing operations to counter Houthi movements and attacks in the region.

A military source reported that government forces first regained control of Al-Khazan hill before advancing to secure the nearby Al-Makahinah hill. Both locations are situated within the Jabal Habashi district. The source indicated that the battles involved extensive use of various weaponry.

The same source added that government forces are continuing to engage Houthi militias on the Maqbanah and Al-Kudhah fronts. Concurrently, reinforcements are arriving at the front lines to bolster military positions and enhance their capacity to respond to the militias' maneuvers.

This latest development occurs amidst a rise in military operations in the western countryside of Taiz, where intermittent clashes persist on the Maqbanah and Al-Kudhah fronts, accompanied by troop movements and reinforcements from both sides.

The areas west of Taiz hold significant military importance due to their geographical location, connecting to several front lines and routes leading to the western coast. Consequently, control over the high ground and military sites in this region is considered a crucial factor influencing the nature of future operations.
