The Yemeni Bar Association has strongly condemned an ambush and shooting incident targeting lawyer Bassam Saleh Ahmed Saad Al-Qahali and his family in Amran Governorate, a region under Houthi militia control. The association is demanding the swift apprehension of all individuals involved and their referral to justice.

In a statement released on Sunday, August 9, 2026, the association announced it had received a report and complaint from lawyer Bassam Al-Qahali. He detailed how he and his family were subjected to intense gunfire in broad daylight, an incident the association described as a grave assault on the rule of law and societal security.

According to the complaint, lawyer Al-Qahali accused Naseem Ali Ali Al-Khidri and others of participating in the attack. The report also named Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Al-Qahali, known as "Al-Daqsa," as an instigator and director of the incident, along with other unnamed individuals.

The Bar Association clarified that the complaint links the attack to the lawyer's professional activities and cases he has undertaken against accused persons. It considers that, if proven true, this would significantly exacerbate the severity of the incident, marking it as a direct targeting of the legal profession and its role in upholding justice and the rule of law.

The association emphasized that the targeting of the lawyer and his family with firearms in what it termed a retaliatory manner constitutes a violation of the sanctity of human life and a direct threat to the justice system. It warned of the serious implications of such continued assaults amidst what it described as a deteriorating security situation in Amran Governorate.
