Intelligence and local sources indicate that elements affiliated with Al-Qaeda participated alongside Houthi militants in a large-scale assault on Yemeni army camps along the administrative border between Marib and Hadhramaut governorates in eastern Yemen. The sources revealed that Al-Qaeda elements, positioned in smuggling routes in the Al-Shuqair area of Al-Ain district, Shabwah Governorate, adjacent to Hareeb district in Marib Governorate, were involved in the attack. Their participation reportedly included the deployment of explosive-laden drones targeting an army camp in the Al-Ruwaiq area of Marib. According to sources speaking to Khaba News Agency, the operation was overseen by an Al-Qaeda leader who had previously defected from the organization and was arrested in Sanaa before rejoining its ranks early this year. Military sources stated that Houthi forces launched approximately nine ballistic missiles from areas under their control in Marib Governorate, as well as from other locations including Dhamar Governorate. The group also deployed several explosive-laden drones to target army camps in Marib and Hadhramaut governorates. The attack resulted in dozens of casualties among government forces, though official final casualty figures have not yet been released by Yemeni authorities. |
