A young man was critically injured by live ammunition during escalating protests in Aden, Yemen's temporary capital, for a second consecutive day. Demonstrations intensified due to severe electricity outages and deteriorating basic services, spreading to areas near the government headquarters and the international airport. Local sources identified the injured individual as Naseem Abdullah Ali, a resident of Al-Bastain neighborhood. He sustained a gunshot wound to the head while participating in a protest at "Joulat Al-Safina" roundabout in the Dar Saad district. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in intensive care in serious condition. The protests, which gained momentum throughout Monday, saw dozens of citizens gather in front of the Ma'ashiq Presidential Palace, the seat of the Yemeni government. Demonstrators chanted slogans demanding the dismissal of officials and an end to the suffering of the city's residents, who are enduring a suffocating summer marked by prolonged and frequent power cuts. Protesters emphasized that the collapse of the power system has exacerbated the already unbearable living and health burdens on the population. Reports indicate that demonstrators attempted to block the main roads leading to Aden International Airport in the Khormaksar district, aiming to disrupt movement and pressure authorities to immediately address their demands, including the provision of fuel for power generation stations. The temporary capital, Aden, and several other governorates are experiencing widespread protests as residents take to the streets to condemn the deteriorating electricity service. The duration of power outages has reportedly reached 20 hours off and only two hours on within a 24-hour period, coinciding with an intense heatwave affecting the country. |
