Ahmad Ali Abdullah Saleh Calls for Unity and National Dialogue on Republic Day

Ahmad Ali Abdullah Saleh, Deputy Chairman of the General People's Congress, has emphasized that preserving and strengthening Yemeni unity is a national and historical responsibility incumbent upon all. He stressed that May 22nd represents not a transient quest for power, but a culmination of immense sacrifices and a safeguard for national identity against fragmentation and foreign influence.

In an address to the Yemeni people on the 36th anniversary of Yemeni unification, Saleh urged all political factions to embark on a new chapter founded on dialogue and partnership to restore the state and end division. He also called upon the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to rise to their responsibilities, acting with a spirit of statehood rather than factionalism and dispute, and to reconnect with the populace by being present within the country. Saleh asserted that any authority derives its legitimacy from its presence within the nation and its connection to the citizens.

The Deputy Chairman paid tribute to the architect of Yemeni unification, the late leader Ali Abdullah Saleh, as well as all national leaders and martyrs. He reiterated that state-building begins with the enforcement of law, the professional consolidation of the armed forces, and prioritizing salary payments and service improvements. Saleh highlighted that Yemen is rich in resources and capable individuals and can progress with genuine will and responsible governance.

He underscored that state-building requires institutional development, the rule of law, security, and unified armed forces operating on professional, national foundations, free from narrow loyalties.

Furthermore, Saleh stressed the importance of promptly disbursing salaries, improving essential services, reactivating state institutions, and safeguarding national resources from corruption. He asserted that Yemen, far from being poor, is a nation endowed with wealth, a strategic location, and capable citizens, poised for resurgence with sincere national will and responsible leadership.
