Violent tribal clashes have erupted in Al Marashi district of Al Jawf Governorate, a region under Houthi militia control in northeastern Yemen, with local tribes accusing the militia of instigating old feuds. Local sources reported that armed confrontations broke out on Wednesday between the Al Jazilan and Al Abis tribes in Al Marashi district. The clashes involved the use of various light and medium weapons. Notably, the security and military apparatuses affiliated with the Houthi militia reportedly remained inactive during the conflict. Tribal leaders have accused a recently appointed Houthi official, known as "Abu Shihab Al Amari," who was designated as the security director for Al Marashi, of reviving old tribal vendettas. They allege that Al Amari is showing bias towards one party over another, thereby exacerbating inter-tribal disputes. Al Jawf Governorate, currently under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi militia, has been experiencing a surge in tribal conflicts amidst widespread security chaos. Observers suggest that these escalating tensions are aimed at fragmenting the social fabric, enabling the militia to consolidate its control and influence over the tribes of Al Jawf to serve its sectarian agenda. |
