Yemen's Masam demining project has successfully cleared 3,124 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices left by Houthi militias during the first half of May, continuing its vital mission to protect civilians and secure affected areas. The operational room of the Masam project announced that its field teams have intensified demining operations across several Yemeni governorates. A statement from the project's media office detailed that between May 1st and May 15th, a total of 3,124 explosive items were neutralized. This included 2,685 unexploded ordnance items, 267 anti-tank mines, 157 anti-personnel mines, and 15 improvised explosive devices, highlighting the significant dangers faced by the demining teams. During this period, Masam teams also cleared approximately 845,671 square meters of Yemeni land. These systematic survey and clearance operations are crucial for rehabilitating damaged areas and returning them to safe civilian use. Looking at weekly figures, the project reported that during the second week of May, Masam teams cleared 2,285 explosive items. In the preceding week, the total cleared comprised 1,964 unexploded ordnance items, 172 anti-tank mines, 145 anti-personnel mines, and 4 improvised explosive devices. Additionally, over 531,413 square meters of land were cleared in the past week as part of ongoing efforts to secure liberated areas from war remnants. In the Midi region specifically, the statement confirmed that Masam teams have neutralized 9,744 landmines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices since commencing operations there. They have also cleared 2,877,816 square meters of land, contributing significantly to enhancing civilian safety and supporting the return of normal life to the area. |
