A child has tragically drowned in a water retention dam in the rural areas of Taiz Governorate, southwest Yemen, marking another recurring tragedy as seasonal rains fill reservoirs across the region. Local sources confirmed that the victim, identified as Mohammed Mutahar Hail, died on Monday after falling into the water barrier while attempting to swim in a village within the Mirab area of the Maqbanah district, west of the governorate. The incident occurred while the deceased was reportedly on an outing with a group of fellow students at the "Qultat Al-Khazjah" reservoir, where he subsequently succumbed to drowning. This fatality follows closely on the heels of a similar incident just two days prior, which resulted in the drowning deaths of two young girls in the "Hasab Hamra" dam, located in the Al-Ashmalah sub-district within the same district. As seasonal torrents flow and dams reach capacity, drowning incidents continue to escalate throughout Yemen's countryside, resulting in dozens of fatalities annually, predominantly among children. |
