Severe weather events across northern and western Yemen have dramatically worsened the existing humanitarian crisis, resulting in extensive damage to displaced communities, numerous casualties from flash floods, and urgent calls for international intervention.

Local authorities managing displacement camps in the Al-Jawf Governorate, northern Yemen, reported that intense storms and heavy rainfall over the preceding two days severely impacted vast areas. This deluge specifically affected approximately 1,370 displaced families in the Khabb wa Al-Shaf district, marking one of the most damaging weather episodes the region has recently experienced.

According to a statement released by the Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps, preliminary assessments indicated widespread destruction within the fragile shelters and infrastructure of the camps. The report confirmed that 508 families lost their housing entirely, while an additional 862 families sustained partial damage. This devastation has left numerous households exposed to the elements under dire humanitarian conditions.

The Unit issued an immediate distress signal, imploring international relief agencies and humanitarian organizations to intervene without delay to supply essential provisions, including emergency shelter, food, potable water, sanitation services, and medical care. Authorities cautioned that the situation risks escalating further amidst ongoing atmospheric volatility.

The statement further highlighted that the scarcity of basic supplies threatens a broader humanitarian catastrophe, particularly among the most vulnerable segments of the population, such as children, women, and the elderly, especially given the already precarious service provision within the camps. Local officials affirmed their readiness to facilitate the entry and equitable distribution of aid to the most affected families, emphasizing that rapid response is critical to containing the crisis's repercussions.

Concurrently, in districts along the western coast of the country, local sources reported on Saturday that the death toll from the floods had risen to 17 fatalities, including five women, specifically in the Al-Mokha and Mawza districts. These reports also detailed five individuals still missing, alongside extensive material damage, including the complete or partial destruction of nearly 50 homes, the severing of major roadways, the inundation of agricultural lands, and the loss of livestock.
