The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior announced on Wednesday evening the successful thwarting of a dangerous terrorist plot and the apprehension of an affiliated network comprising 20 individuals, some of whom remain at large outside the country, with memberships spanning Kuwaiti, Iranian, and Lebanese nationalities. The Ministry detailed that the State Security apparatus, following meticulous surveillance and security monitoring, successfully identified and detained five Kuwaiti citizens and one individual whose citizenship had been revoked. Authorities also tracked and identified 14 fugitives, including five Kuwaiti nationals, five others stripped of their citizenship, two Iranian nationals, and two Lebanese nationals. Kuwaiti authorities confirmed that the accused individuals were verifiably linked to the proscribed terrorist organization Hezbollah. The network was reportedly planning assassination operations targeting key state symbols and leaders, in addition to actively recruiting operatives to execute these planned activities. According to the official statement, the detainees confessed to espionage, affiliation with the terrorist organization, and expressing readiness to carry out missions aimed at assassinating state figures and undermining the nation's supreme interests. They further admitted to receiving advanced military training abroad from organization leaders, covering weapons handling, explosives, surveillance techniques, and assassination protocols—acts deemed a grave betrayal of the homeland and a clear violation of allegiance requirements. The apprehended suspects have been referred to the Public Prosecution for the necessary legal proceedings, while security agencies continue their investigations to pursue all parties connected to this cell or any other terrorist organizations. The Ministry of Interior strongly emphasized that the nation's security, sovereignty, and stability are inviolable red lines, characterizing the cell's actions as an extremely serious criminal endeavor and high treason targeting Kuwaiti security and leadership. Authorities affirmed that security agencies will firmly confront any attempt to compromise national security or cooperate with terrorist organizations, applying the maximum legal penalties without leniency. |
