A prominent tribal Sheikh from Yemen's Al-Jawf Governorate has formally announced his defection from the Houthi militia, citing profound discontent over escalating corruption, systemic abuses, and the deteriorating living conditions within areas controlled by the group.

Sheikh Hassan Mohammed Abdullah Surour Al-Sharif, a figure from the Al-Ghayl district in Al-Jawf, issued a recorded statement confirming his withdrawal of allegiance from the Houthi group and its authorities. He asserted that these authorities "have achieved no right, abolished no wrong, provided no justice to the oppressed, nor deterred any oppressor."

Al-Sharif sharply criticized the militia, accusing its leadership of exploiting power and influence for personal gain. He further contended that the militia lacks any substantive agenda aimed at safeguarding the lives and fundamental rights of citizens.

In his declaration, the defecting Sheikh completely disavowed all practices and violations being perpetrated against residents in the district and the broader governorate. He characterized the militia's slogans and the rhetoric of its leader as "hollow and deceptive," noting their complete failure to translate into tangible action on the ground.

Al-Sharif accused the militia of being responsible for the theft of the governorate's wealth, depriving its people of their resources, alongside implementing policies of exclusion and marginalization against the population of Al-Jawf. Addressing the Houthi leadership directly, he demanded: "Where are the promises, the justice, and the agenda you constantly boast about? We have seen nothing but killing, destruction, oppression, misery, humiliation, deprivation, suffering, and hardship."

The Sheikh concluded his appeal with pointed questions directed at Houthi leaders regarding their accountability before God, asking, "Do you not fear God? Do you not dread His wrath and punishment? Do you not have mercy on the people? Will you not alleviate this suffering weighing upon their shoulders?" This development occurs amid a backdrop of rising public anger in the predominantly tribal Al-Jawf Governorate due to ongoing militia transgressions.
