Saudi 'Masam' Project Destroys Over 6,000 Houthi Explosives Near Bab al-Mandab

The Saudi Project for Landmines Removal in Yemen (Masam) announced on Thursday, February 13, 2026, the successful destruction of 6,141 explosive items left behind by Houthi militias in the Bab al-Mandab area, west of Taiz governorate. According to a statement released by the project, the destroyed ordnance included 29 anti-personnel mines, 36 anti-tank mines, 119 assorted shells, 1,989 fuses, 13 hand grenades, 16 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and two rockets. The total count also comprised 3,917 various types of ammunition, 15 rocket-propelled projectiles, and five Katyusha rockets. These materials were neutralized only after they were secured and confirmed safe for destruction procedures. Masam confirmed that the operation was executed by its Special Task Force Two, emphasizing its ongoing commitment to clearing liberated areas of mines and unexploded ordnance deliberately planted by the militia, which pose a persistent threat to civilian lives. |
