Yemen's Masam Project Clears Over 1 Million Sq Meters of Land in August

Yemen's Masam project, dedicated to clearing landmines, announced on August 21st that its teams had removed 9,280 mines, unexploded ordnance, and improvised explosive devices since the beginning of August. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to rid Yemeni territories of remnants left by Houthi militias.

The project's media office stated that the total items cleared during this period included 9,018 unexploded ordnance, 162 anti-tank mines, 48 anti-personnel mines, and 52 improvised explosive devices. Concurrently, Masam teams successfully cleared 1,002,229 square meters of land. This work is crucial in mitigating the dangers posed by mines and explosives, which threaten civilian lives, and in making affected areas safer for residents to return and resume various activities.

During the third week of August specifically, the project's teams disarmed 1,836 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices. This figure comprised 1,792 pieces of unexploded ordnance, 25 anti-tank mines, 13 anti-personnel mines, and 6 explosive devices. Over the past week, the teams cleared 355,679 square meters of land as part of their survey, clearance, and removal operations of war remnants across several Yemeni regions.

In the Midi district of Hajjah governorate, the project reported that its teams have removed 12,854 mines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive devices since commencing operations in the area. Furthermore, from the start of clearance operations in Midi up to August 21st, the teams have cleared 4,596,730 square meters of land, contributing to efforts to remove war debris and secure areas for the population.
