The Yemeni government signed the largest prisoner exchange deal in the history of detainees, abductees, and forcibly disappeared persons today, Thursday, in the Jordanian capital, Amman. The agreement will secure the release of approximately 1728 detainees from both sides of the conflict. Yahya Kazman, the deputy head of the Yemeni government's negotiating delegation, stated on his X platform account that the agreement includes the release of several members of the Arab Coalition forces, affiliates of the armed forces and security, military formations, and popular resistance. It also covers politicians and journalists who have spent years in the detention facilities of the Houthi group. Kazman described the agreement as a "significant humanitarian step" that reflects the Yemeni political leadership's commitment to ending the suffering of detainees and their families. He congratulated the released detainees and their relatives on reaching this accord. The Yemeni government reiterated its dedication to continuing efforts to secure the release of all remaining individuals in detention centers. The government emphasized its solidarity with the families of the detainees until the completion of all release operations. |
