Eight civilians, predominantly children, were killed and injured on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, when a mortar shell fired by the Houthi militia struck a residential home in the Al-Athawer village of Haifan district, south of Taiz Governorate. Local sources reported that the shell landed on the home of citizen Ali Abdulhaq Al-Athawari, resulting in the deaths of children Miri Ali Abdulhaq, aged 7, Samaa Ali Abdulhaq, aged 12, Hayyan Ali Abdulhaq, aged 3, and Abeer Abduldaim, aged 35. The same sources indicated that four other individuals sustained injuries from the shelling. These include Abdo Marwan Abdulhaq, aged 20, Zaid Raghadan Ali, aged 20, Burhan Mithaq Abdulhaq, aged two and a half, and Alia Ali Abdulhaq, aged 10. This attack occurs amidst ongoing Houthi shelling of residential neighborhoods, villages, and civilian homes across multiple fronts in Taiz Governorate. Such actions exacerbate the suffering of civilians, leading to more casualties, particularly among women and children, and cause destruction to homes and private property, constituting a flagrant violation of international laws and conventions that ensure the protection of civilians during armed conflicts. |
