A total of 154 civilians were killed or injured by Houthi militia fire in Taiz Governorate, southwestern Yemen, between October 1 and October 26, according to the Taiz Human Rights Center. This period coincided with the ongoing siege imposed by the group on the city and an escalation of attacks on residential areas. The center reported on Wednesday that the casualties included 44 deaths and 110 injuries resulting from artillery and rocket shelling, as well as direct sniper fire. The report highlighted that women and children constitute a significant portion of the total victims, with 47 women and 51 children among the injured and deceased. The Houthi shelling caused extensive damage to homes, mosques, hospitals, and schools, in addition to the destruction and damage of public and private facilities and infrastructure. The center also documented 37 cases of abduction of citizens from their homes and businesses in the southern and western rural districts of Taiz during the same period. The human rights center noted that the continued violations and siege have contributed to the forced displacement of tens of thousands of families from villages, residential neighborhoods, and displacement camps. The report warns of the worsening humanitarian conditions faced by civilians in the governorate. |
