Civil defense teams in Hadramout Valley and Desert successfully extinguished a large fire that erupted at the Al-Somal Houses refugee camp near Sayun Airport, destroying approximately 15 residences and causing initial estimated material losses of 20 million Yemeni rials. Official sources indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the fire originated from an electrical short circuit in an air conditioning unit. The flames subsequently spread, damaging several dwellings and causing destruction to power lines and poles within the vicinity of the camp. Efforts to contain and extinguish the blaze involved the participation of civil defense units, forces from Sayun International Airport, a stationed military unit, and highway patrol police. These teams successfully surrounded the fire, preventing its expansion to adjacent housing and areas. Following the incident, relevant authorities urged strict adherence to electrical safety regulations, regular inspection and maintenance of electrical connections and appliances, and the avoidance of operating air conditioning units with existing electrical faults to prevent similar accidents that endanger lives and property. |
