The Ambassador of the European Union to Yemen, Patrick Simonnet, has strongly condemned the assassination of Wissam Qaed, the acting Executive Director of the Social Fund for Development (SFD) in Aden, calling for the swift apprehension and prosecution of those responsible.

Ambassador Simonnet expressed his shock at the killing, stating on his X platform account that Qaed, in his capacity as Deputy Director-General of the SFD, was deeply dedicated to serving his country and worked tirelessly to assist millions of Yemenis across the nation.

The European envoy extended his deepest condolences to the victim's family. He emphasized the urgent need to pursue the perpetrators of this crime and bring them to justice, underscoring the importance of accountability.

Wissam Qaed's body was discovered on Sunday evening, several hours after he was abducted by unknown armed assailants in the Al-Inmaa city of Aden. The incident has prompted a significant security response.

Following the assassination, the Minister of Interior, Major General Ibrahim Haidan, ordered the police directors of the Aden, Lahj, Abyan, and Taiz governorates to elevate security readiness. He also mandated intensified field operations to track down, apprehend, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
