A citizen, Talal Mahdi Saifan, was killed by direct gunfire following a verbal altercation in a popular market in Saada Governorate, northwest Yemen. The incident escalated from a verbal dispute to an armed assault.

Local sources reported that the victim, who hailed from the Najra district of Hajjah Governorate and worked in Saada's markets, engaged in a verbal argument with an individual. The assailant's cousin then slapped the victim, prompting Saifan to retaliate by slapping him in self-defense.

Sources confirmed that the dispute did not initially involve any armed confrontation. However, the assailant later returned with a firearm and discharged six shots directly at Saifan, resulting in his immediate death.

Following the incident, relevant authorities apprehended and detained the perpetrator. Activists and the victim's family have called for the swift completion of legal proceedings and the referral of the case file to the Public Prosecution for the accused's fair trial.

The family of the deceased, Talal Saifan, has emphasized their unwavering demand for legal retribution as their sole option, rejecting any tribal interventions, mediations, or pressures aimed at diluting the case or diverting its legal course. They are calling for the enforcement of the rule of law and swift justice.

Saada Governorate and areas under Houthi militia control are experiencing a daily increase in the number of homicides amidst widespread chaos and unprecedented security breakdown.
